What is Sodium Methylparaben (MPS) used for?

Methylparabens are a type of chemical that manufacturers often use as a preservative. People can add them to food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals to increase shelf life and avoid bacterial and fungal growth. Methylparabens belong to a group of chemicals known as parabens.

MPS is a non-toxic, odorless, non-irritating, non-allergic white crystalline powder that’s easily soluble in water. It’s used in: Shampoos, Creams, Lotions, Face wash, Shower gels.  
Sodium Methylparaben (MPS) MPS works with other parabens to make cosmetic products safer and improve their shelf life. It’s also used as a fungicide in Drosophila food media at 0.1%.
