Applications
N-Phenyl Maleimide is used as a cross-linking agent and as a reactant in various organic synthesis reactions, particularly in the production of polymers and specialty chemicals.
Description
Description. N-Phenylmaleimide is used as a dipolarophile in 1,3-cycloaddition reaction with a nitrone, useful for the preparation of crystalline adducts of dienes. It is used as a plastic modifier. This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio.
Preparation
A process for the manufacture of N-phenylmaleimide which comprises reacting maleic anhydride with aniline in a single step at elevated temperature in the presence of a water-immiscible organic solvent capable of forming an azeotrope with water and of p-toluenesulfonic acis as catalyst.
Chemical Properties
N-Phenyl Maleimide possesses chemical properties related to its aromatic structure and reactivity, notably in cross-linking and polymerization reactions in organic synthesis.
Definition
N-Phenyl Maleimide is an organic compound characterized by its maleimide structure with a phenyl group, commonly used in cross-linking and polymerization reactions in organic synthesis.
