Methylparaben is a 4-hydroxybenzoate ester resulting from the formal condensation of the carboxy group of 4-hydroxybenzoic acid with methanol. It is the most frequently used antimicrobial preservative in cosmetics.Methylparaben (MP) is a preservative used in cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals. It’s also known as E-218 in industry.

  • Food Product: It is also used as a food preservative and has the E number E218. Methylparaben is commonly used as a fungicide in Drosophila food media at 0.1%.
  • Skin Care Product: Methylparaben is an anti-fungal agent often used in a variety of cosmetics and personal-care products.
