Description

Methyl p-hydroxybenzoate is largely used as an antimicrobial agent in the food industry, where it is short handed E218. According to the Food and Drug Administration methyl p-hydroxybenzoate can be added to food up to a final concentration of 0.1%.

When used in cosmetic products, stearic acid primarily fulfills the role of a thickener or hardener. Stearic acid has an eighteen carbon chain and is considered a long-chain fatty acid. Stearic acid is mainly used in the production of detergents, soaps, and cosmetics such as shampoos and shaving cream products.
