Description

Monothioglycerol is a thiol, also known as 3-Mercaptopropane-1,2-diol and thioglycerol. It’s a glycerol in which one of the primary hydroxy groups is replaced by a thiol group. Monothioglycerol is used as a matrix in liquid secondary ion mass spectrometry and fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry. It’s also used as a pharmaceutical excipient for various parenteral applications, such as microspheres, suspensions, solutions, and lyophilized injections. It’s used as an antimicrobial preservative and an antioxidant.
