Description
Caustic Potash Flakes is produced from Caustic Potash Lye manufactured by UHDE, Germany’s Membrane Cell Technology. GACL guarantees minimum 90% purity of KOH. Caustic Potash Flakes is stable even at high temperatures. QCD is equipped with most modem instruments to analyze special test on request.
Preparation
Manufacture. Historically, KOH was made by adding potassium carbonate to a strong solution of calcium hydroxide (slaked lime). The salt metathesis reaction results in precipitation of solid calcium carbonate, leaving potassium hydroxide in solution: Ca(OH) 2 + K 2CO 3 → CaCO 3 + 2 KOH.
Chemical Properties
Potassium hydroxide is soluble in water, freely soluble in ethanol, methanol, and glycerin. It is slightly soluble in ether. It is non-combustible but highly corrosive. It is widely used in chemical manufacturing, cleaning compounds, and petroleum refining.
