Preparation
Ammonium molybdate solution, dissolve 5 g of crushed analytical grade reagent in water and dilute to 250 ml with water. Ascorbic acid solution, dissolve 4.4 g of reagent in water and dilute to 250 ml. This solution deteriorates slowly on standing, and is best prepared freshly as required.
Chemical Properties
Anhydrous aluminum chloride (AlCl3) is a powerful Lewis acid known for its ability to catalyze various chemical reactions, particularly Friedel-Crafts reactions in organic synthesis.
Definition
Anhydrous aluminium chloride is a powerful Lewis acid, capable of forming Lewis acid-base adducts with even weak Lewis bases such as benzophenone and mesitylene. It forms tetrachloroaluminate ( [AlCl 4] −) in the presence of chloride ions.
